Hmmm… Today is yet another lazy day for me; started at 10 am with no idea what I’m gonna do next. 🙂 Well definitely no heavy breakfast, considering the huge serving of chicken biryani I had for dinner last night! Here’s what I had; a single banana, full of carbs and my usual cup of tea without which I can’t start my day…
Now I’m ready to blog about the recipe I’ve chosen for today, my basic garlic bread. 🙂 It’s so easy to make, perfect for a lazy day! Garlic bread can be served as a side dish along with pasta, salads or soups; or even as a snack by itself. There are various ways of making garlic bread. I prefer the one I use as I find it less messy, but i’ll mention about the other methods as well so that you can try whichever you like. 🙂
- slices of bread
- softened butter
- grated cheese (cheddar or parmesan)
- cloves of garlic
- herbs of your choice (thyme, parsley, oregano, basil)
- Toast your bread slices on a baking tray in the oven at 150 degress C for about 10 minutes till the edges are crispy. You can use a loaf of french bread or baguette cut into slices, or any other bread you have at hand.
- Meanwhile, mince or grate 1 or 2 cloves of garlic (according to taste). In a small bowl, mix together the grated cheese, garlic, and herbs of your choice. I usually use fresh thyme.
- Once your bread slices are toasted, allow to cool slightly until you can handle them. Spread the softened butter over each slice and sprinkle generously with the cheese-garlic mixture.
- Bake in the oven at 150 degrees C for another 5 to 7 mins, until the edges are golden brown and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately. 🙂
- The most common method to make garlic bread is to mix the minced garlic, herbs and butter, spread this mixture over your bread slices and sprinkle with cheese (optional). But personally I find it messy to make the butter mixture. And I like my garlic bread very cheesy with minimum butter. 🙂
- Another way is to add your garlic and herbs to melted butter or olive oil which is then spread over the bread.
- If your planning to serve this as and appetiser or entrée, keep all your ingredients ready and prepare your garlic bread at the last moment. These are best served warm and fresh out of the oven.
